A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and a grown-up experienced illness at the location in the summer month.
The elderly man, from that region, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.
Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.
The man conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were found, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.
She stated the man went on to play the "sweet game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member called the law enforcement again.
She explained the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
