19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship after the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 titles at twenty-one various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my children at once, so to get a championship is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
